With the first dusting of snow appearing on the Wasatch Front on the evening of Sept. 15, winter is upon the Salt Lake Valley in a few short months.
It’s time for skiers and snowboarders to consider where to ski or ride this season—before prices begin to rise.
Westminster’s Ski and Snowboard Club offers discounted rates to four local resorts: Alta, Brighton, Park City (Epic Pass) and Snowbird. In order to take advantage of these discounts, visitors must be full-time students (at least 12 credits).
Season pass forms for these four resorts can be found at the concierge desk in Shaw.
Listed below are prices for each respective resort, as well as travel time and distance for easy comparison between the eight in the area. Each resort carries its own atmosphere and crowd, so it can be hard to say what suits each student at Westminster.
Since Deer Valley is slightly more expensive than other passes ($1,400), an alternative is to pick up a job application instead of a pass form.
“Have your employment application forms in as soon as possible,” said Emily Summers, the senior communication manager at Deer Valley. “At the latest, have all of your paperwork submitted by the first Friday of November, although we do hire ski instructors throughout the year.”
With Vail Resorts Inc. purchasing both Canyons and Park City Mountain Resort this past year (known currently as Park City Mountain), the two now sit as the largest resort in the United States with a newly installed gondola interconnecting 7,300 acres of terrain. The new, expanded resort offers the “epic pass,” which gives access to riding at resorts all across the U.S. and at international locations.
