Club president, Isabelle Zaik, has been involved with the Ski and Snowboard Club since she started at Westminster. This year, she takes a leadership position with Owen Golden hoping to “increase the community feel.
The Westminster Ski and Snowboard Club has new leading faces hoping to fill this season with events and opportunities for all to join.
Unlike other local colleges, Westminster’s winter-geared club is open to all and without cost. Compared to the University of Utah’s club, One Love, where there is a membership fee, Westminster’s club is free of charge.
One of the club’s presidents, Owen Golden, senior marketing major, said the Westminster club differs from other colleges’ because it “allows people at Westminster to meet and share passions.”
The second president, Isabelle Zaik, senior marketing major, was a transfer student her sophomore year and has been involved in the ski community since.
Westminster’s Ski and Snowboard Club is open to all interested students, free of charge. The group is hoping to add more events and meetups to its calendar this year.
Both Golden and Zaik were heavily involved in the snow community their first year at Westminster. Both joined the Ski and Snowboard Club and were always looking for new events and opportunities and asking to be more involved.
In their senior year, Golden and Zaik’s new leadership positions fell into their laps, and they look forward to planning as many events as possible to “increase the community feel,” Zaik said.
The club already has some events planned, including tramp nights, a spring rail jam and the annual “Share the Shred” event. It also has its second annual event at the local Este Pizzeria, where there there will be half-priced beer and two movie premieres on Nov. 19.
Another event the club hopes to add this year is a ‘meetup day.’
“We’re hoping to do meetups for everyone with the same pass for a club ride day,” Golden said.
Jaime Vincent, senior geology major, said she’s most excited about “riding with new people and just being on snow again.”
Golden, who is also on the snowboard team, said he hopes to combine the two worlds on campus to get better student involvement both on and off the slopes.
Another perk of the club is discounted passes.
“I joined the club first for a discounted pass to Brighton,” said Vincent, who has been a member for four years. “But then I became great friends with everyone involved in the club and had a lot of awesome opportunities.”
Park City and Alta have no deadline for purchasing passes and Snowbird’s deadline is on Dec. 10.
