Although new and exciting video games fuel the current video game market, nostalgia plays a big part in gaming culture.

World’s Game Store, nestled on the corner of 1300 East and Highland Drive, is helping keep these memories alive by making games from the past relevant and available.

“We essentially sell memories,” said Leo Calenzano, a World’s Game Store employee. “People come in here remembering the games they played as a kid and they want to pass on the same fun experiences from their childhood to the next generation.”

World’s Game Store’s selection is incredibly varied—from the more familiar Playstation, Nintendo, Sega, and Xbox, to the more obscure 3DO or Turbografx 16. They even have a game room in the back where customers can sit and play their favorites.

“We cover an entire range of 40 years of video game history in the store,” Calenzano said. “When I first was a customer here, I remember the feeling when I first walked in and how unique it was.”

Gregory Suvorov, the store’s owner, said the store has shrines dedicated to specific games and their histories.

“You’ll see stuff you’ve never see in one place again,” Suvorov said. “It’s kind of like a museum for video games. We have a lot of crazy things that are sold that people don’t even know exist.”

While retro video games are a large part of World’s Game Store, the store has embraced new and upcoming video game technology as well.

“We’re really looking forward to the way gaming is going with all the new technology like virtual reality and how it will change how we play,” Calenzano said.

The store itself has quite a history.

“This building was built in 1985 and the store used to house World War II models and people would come by for model parties,” Calenzano said. “At another point, it was a ski supply shop. Now we’re a retro video game store.”

World’s Game Store’s goal is to create retro memories with classic video games, and Calenzano said he urges people to come by the store and ask about any sort of games.
