An Open Letter to the Student Body

Dear Griffins,

First of all, thank you. Thank you for putting your trust in us to represent you and your concerns to the college administration and the broader community.

We are excited to get to work doing just that. We have already begun focusing our priorities and will soon begin the search for talented students to join our team as Executive Creative Director and Director of Budget and Accounting.

Throughout our campaigns we made clear our commitment to community, accountability, and inclusion. As we move forward we will continue to keep these principles at the forefront of our decision-making.

Accountability has long been a topic of discussion and request from the student body to the college administration and student board. These requests have especially increased over the past year with growing calls for institutional financial transparency, following last year’s tuition increase.

After giving a promise of accountability and transparency at the beginning of their terms — especially related to financial information — it was disappointing to learn Monday that while the college administration released details of the 2020-21 fiscal year budget to ASW executive leaders in February, they neglected to share the information with the student body.

It was not until the Forum published their piece, Exclusive: President Dobkin releases approximate Westminster budget for 2020-21 fiscal year, that this information was made public. If you have not yet read this piece, we highly recommend it as it provides important context regarding financial decisions being made for the college.

As your incoming ASW executive leadership, we commit to doing all we can to ensure a letdown such as this does not happen under our administration. We will do our best to be transparent, prodive context where we can, and hold ourselves accountable to you.

Looking forward, we are optimistic about the future of ASW, supporting the return of our vibrant community, and our ability to advocate for and support your needs.

To do this, though, we need your help. Your voices will continue to be our main source of inspiration and at the center of what we do, so please consider taking time to complete this Student Opinion Survey. Information collected through this survey will provide us with additional insight on current student needs and what you’d like to see from ASW moving forward.

You can also always feel free to reach out to us directly via email or stop us to chat when you see us around campus.

In community,

Brendan Sudberry & Deaun Saxby

Student Body President-Elect & Vice President-Elect
