The Westminster women’s basketball team won, 66-44, over Colorado Christian University Friday night.

The Griffins started the game out strong creating a 10-point lead in the first quarter. The team maintained their lead through the second quarter and went into half-time with an 11-point lead.

The Cougars kept pace with the Griffins in the second and third quarters. But by the fourth quarter, the Griffins pulled ahead again and led by nine points.

Junior Hunter Krebs led the Griffins with 12 points and senior Kaitlin Toluono recorded her second double-double in just two weekends. Toluono scored 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.

“A great win on the road,” Head Coach Shelley Jarrard said. “Hunter was tough to stop inside, Kaitlin had another double-double game, and our defense was key in the fourth quarter.”

The Westminster women’s basketball team followed their Friday night win with a second win over Regis University Saturday, 69-60.

The Griffins outscored the Rangers in the third quarter creating a seven-point lead. Junior Sarah McGinley’s sparked a 10-2 run halfway through the period.

In the early minutes of the fourth quarter, Regis got the lead down to four points but couldn’t close it any further.

Junior Mariah Martin led the Griffins with 22 points, followed closely by Toluono with 18 and McGinley with 17.

The win over the Rangers cemented a tournament spot for the Westminster women’s basketball team in the upcoming Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

The Griffins will end their regular season at home against in-state rival Dixie State University Friday.
