Men’s lacrosse returns home after loss to Wingate

The Westminster men’s lacrosse team lost Sunday afternoon to the Wingate University Bulldogs, 19-13.

First-year Merritt McMahon scored the opening goal to give the Griffins their only lead of the game. The Bulldogs went on to score the next nine goals going into the second quarter. 

By half-time, the Griffins trailed behind by 10 points but ramped up in the third and fourth quarters outscoring the Bulldogs 4-3 and 5-2, respectively.

McMahon led the Griffins with a total of five goals. Junior Blake Gross and first-year Jake Auger both scored a pair of goals. 

Goalie junior Jordan Penn came in before halftime and faced 23 shots, made six saves and only allowed five goals.

Westminster will kick off the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference hosting Colorado State University Pueblo on Friday and Adams State University on Sunday.
