
The Westminster College women’s lacrosse team defeated BYU in an preseason game on Dumke Field Saturday with a final score of 15-14.
The Griffins led by one point by halftime, with BYU coming back in the second half to take the lead. With five seconds remaining, senior Phebe Walker scored to tie the game sending the game into overtime.
BYU secured the first possession of overtime but couldn’t score past Westminster’s defense. Erekson scored to give the Griffins the win.
Sophomore Eden Freiberg scored six goals and recorded one assist to lead the Griffins with seven points. She took 10 shots, scoring seven shots on goal.
The Griffins return to play Rockhurst on March 9 in Grand Junction, Colorado. They host Colorado Mesa in a conference home-opener against Colorado Mesa on March 21.
