Women’s lacrosse falls in season opener

The Westminster College women’s lacrosse team opened the season with a loss against Rockhurst University, 21-13.

The Griffins were efficient in the attack with 32 shots and 26 on goal. Seven Griffins scored with five scoring multiple goals. Senior Phebe Walker led the team with three goals and two assists. Junior Melissa Reeves, senior Allie McNeill and senior Audree Erekson each scored two goals and one assist.

Junior Emmaline Russel led the Griffins with six ground balls and three caused turnovers. Junior Lauren Shoughro picked up five ground balls and had one caused turnover and won two draw controls.

The Griffins trailed by one with  halfway through the first half. Rockhurst finished first half on a 7-2 run and began the second half on a 5-2 run to for control of the game and a nine-point lead, 17-8.
